Privacy statement

This statement explains how we may collect and use information about you through our website. If you have any questions about our privacy policies, or think that information we hold about you may need to be corrected, please contact us through our contact page.

The Canadian Association of Ufology and Paranormal Phenomena (CAUPP) respects your privacy and does not sell, rent or loan any identifiable information collected on this site. Any information that you give will be treated in a careful and secure manner. It will not be used in ways to which you have not consented.

The CAUPP does not collect information that personally identifies individuals except when individuals provide such specific information on a voluntary basis. There may be occasions where specific personal information is requested before an individual can enter certain sections of the CAUPP web site. For example, registration is needed to enter the member pages section of the web site or to participate in discussions in our online forum. This kind of registration helps us to ensure that content standards on these sections of the site are rigorously upheld.

We do not seek to identify individual visitors unless they volunteer their contact details through one of the forms on the site. Various forms on our site invite you to submit your contact details and other information about yourself, or to send us emails which may, of course, also identify you or your organization. In each case, the purpose for which you are invited to give us information is clear and we also indicate which of the requested information is essential for the relevant purpose and which is optional - fields for essential information are marked with an asterisk. We will only use your details to send you information from the CAUPP that you have specifically requested to receive. If you no longer wish to receive such information, our emails contain a link that will allow you to change or terminate your subscription to our email or newsletter. Alternatively, you can let us know your preferences by sending an email via our contact page. We will not use your information for purposes that are not clear when you provide your details, and will not disclose it outside the CAUPP, except in very limited circumstances and only with your agreement or where we are legally obliged to do so.

In all such cases, the CAUPP will collect only information that is voluntarily provided by the user and undertakes that such information will be kept strictly confidential. Individual information provided to the CAUPP to gain access to any portions of the CAUPP site will not be sold or made available to a third party.

The CAUPP does reserve the right, however, to perform statistical analyses of user behavior and characteristics, in order to measure interest in and use of the various sections of its web site so as to improve design and navigation. Only aggregated data from these analyses, not individual data, will be used for this purpose.

As well, users should be aware that certain non-personal information and data may be automatically collected by the CAUPP through the operation of what are called "cookies". "Cookies" are small text files that identify an individual computer's browser entering a web site. They allow the site to track that browser's movement through the site over several sessions. Through cookies, a web site can recognize repeat users, facilitate the user's access to and use of the site and allow a site to track usage behavior that will allow content improvements. The CAUPP uses cookies only for the above-mentioned purposes and will not use them to identify users or to track non-CAUPP usage.

If you do not want a cookie placed on your computer by the CAUPP, you may disable cookies altogether by modifying the Preferences section of your browser or Internet Explorer browser (under Tools/Internet Options/Privacy tab/Advanced). Note that it is possible that some aspects or portions of the CAUPP web site may be unavailable to you if you choose this option. If you have no problem accepting cookies, but wish to be informed of their appearance, you may turn on a warning prompt by modifying the default privacy setting section in Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced.

In all cases, the CAUPP strives to protect the security of information that you provide to the CAUPP, and will comply at all time with its statutory and any other obligations in this regard.
